It was recommend by a friend who went to Hania in year 2006. and she mentioned that this guest house was on the postcard! I really like the historical building especially the yellow and blue entrance. And host is very nice, we booked a double room, and we arrive very early due to the ferry arrived at 5:30am! The host lady give us an apartment which cost more and let us to check in at 9:30am. There is free wifi around the receiption. Moreover, the host man recommend us a very good restaurant tamma which just next to the guest house, it really taste very good. And I just find out it is rank#1 restaurant in the trip adviser.
As it is an old building, the room at lower floor may suffer the foot noise from the room at upper level

Nostos in Chania offers a amazing experience. The rooftop terrace provides fine views of the old harbor and creates a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening relaxation. I enjoyed the aesthetic charm of the rooms, particularly how colorful and well-kept they were. The staff always greeted me with warmth and were responsive to any requests. It's just a short walk to the vibrant local dining options. The stairs to access my room were quite steep, which might be challenging with mobility issues. The shower temperature was a bit tricky to control, leading to some adjustments. Despite these minor inconveniences, the historical appeal and atmosphere of the hotel were nice.

Clean place with genuinely helpful stuff and magic view of the sea and the old town-including the old turkish baths. Extremely pleasant and tastefully decorated rooms with climate control, a safe box and multi-channel television, etc...

Loved the position of the hotel. Initially disappointed that we did not have a room with a harbour view but room no 9 was a lovely room - main attraction of it being the peaceful location of it (other rooms were noisy at night, we understand) so we had a wonderful night's sleep, also the access to the prettiest part of Chania. Roof terrace was also charming and we would certainly come back again and recommend it unreservedly to friends.
The only thing we would quibble about is the price of the breakfast. It was very expensive relative to places all around you, and we had a full English breakfast - fresh orange juice, croissant, filter coffee (cafetiere), eggs and bacon, toast and jam for less than your small breakfast in a cafe overlooking the harbour. Would suggest you might review this.

location only
The bed was horrific. I sleep 1/2 on side and 1/2 on stomach; my ribs and pelvic bone actually hurt trying to sleep in that position. It was as if you felt the springs in a box spring not a mattress. I have lots of europe experience and know their beds are very firm but this was obnoxious. Also, I lost $ on an excursion that was of great interest due to directions for pick up being lost in translation. When I came back to hotel to ask about it, there was noone who could speak english to communicate with (at 6:45am). Then person who I booked with was phoned and he didn't even apologize or show empathy. He just assured me he gave me the directions I needed.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and the location in the old city was excellent. It's an excellent base from which to explore western Crete. This small hotel is a very old, historical building, and as such is quite rustic - while this is part of it's charm it may not be for everyone if cost is not the most important determinant
The back "double" room was quite claustrophobic. We moved to a front suite overlooking the harbor - which was fun!

The shower was ridiculously tiny with no room to wash without hitting your head against the vanity. Water everywhere after a shower. Stairs are narrow and dangerous, especially with a mezzanine bed-difficult for anyone with knee issues. Parking not on site, can take time to find a spot.

The location is great. The owner Yannis is a nice guy.
The rooms are not well thought out and are pokey and small. The beds are uncomfortable. The wi-fi is very poor. the bathroom is too small to be feasible - they have not spent enough looking after this hotel. I do not normally complain but both I and my travelling companions were not impressed. You get a great location but that's it.

Not impressed
Scheduled to arrive 6/10/11 at 1530, arrived 1 day late, and five hours late at 20.30 [21.30 at hotel] thanks to Greek air traffic control strike. Shown into room 2 by owner. No balcony, small curtained window above bed looking onto bare, filthy wall four feet away [found this out next day] Strange box room with new panelling. Toilet unacceptable: shower fitting on wall broken, sink plug didn't work. Overnight no ventilation and air conditionong too noisy to keep on My wife and I didn't sleep well. Charged for two nights as booked, missing day no fault of ours but not able to convince owner otherwise. Breakfast not included but at 16 euros a bit expensive for what it was. The web site indicated all rooms had balconies and on visual inspection next day I established that at least one room had not been occupied which had balcony and view of harbour. In my opinion had we been staying a further night we would have been allocated that room but as a one night stop box room was deemed ok for us. Very displeased and wonder if you could send a refund. As it was we passed on our treatment to all others we met during the remainder of our holiday.
